Breconshire is one of three counties that make up the new county of Powys,
formed in 1984. The other two counties being Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire.
It is a large rural area, comprising of five districts, which are Brecon,
Cefn Coed, Crickhowell, Hay and Talgarth and Ystradgynlais. The membership
of 519 is spread over 4 Senior Section Units, 6 Guide Units, 18 Brownie
Units and 8 Rainbow Units.
Breconshire is famous for hosting the large literary festival held in Hay on Wye and the annual Jazz Festival in Brecon.
The county is one of the most beautiful in Wales and receives many visitors every year enjoying a wide range of activities from walking and climbing in the Brecon Beacons to taking in the splendour of the Dan-y-ogof caves which are situated in the south of Breconshire.
