Pembrokeshire is often known as the “premier county”, and it only takes one visit to see why. It is situated at the South West tip of Wales, and has some outstanding scenery, ranging from the mystical mountains of the Presellies to the wild rugged coastline, idyllic safe beaches, and small but fascinating towns. Its natural beauty is preserved for the most part by it being a National Park, and it is a haven for those who enjoy the outdoor life, with miles of coastal paths for hiking and rock-climbing. Water sports and activities play a large part in the life of the County, and more modern past-times such as kite-surfing and coasteering are available for all.
The towns of Tenby, Haverfordwest, Fishguard, Newport and Narberth offer some gentler ways to spend your time, and the wonderful medieval castles at Pembroke, Carew and Manorbier transport you to another era. But it’s not just culture in Pembrokeshire. Who can resist the pull of Oakwood theme park with the third best roller coaster in the world!
Guiding in Pembrokeshire is as varied and lively as the county itself, with opportunities for the girls to participate through the medium of Welsh, as well as English. Numbers have stayed consistent at around the 1,000 mark over the last few years, and the Movement certainly makes its presence felt throughout the county.
There are three divisions in the Guiding County, but we make a point of getting together regularly to celebrate our diversity. Girlguiding Pembrokeshire, under our dynamic County Commissioner, Ruth Best is flourishing, and looking forward to the centenary celebrations with eager anticipation. Croeso y Sir Benfro!
